My thoughts…
This story is, in a word, beautiful. It is so wonderfully told and splendidly crafted; it is everything we’ve come to expect from Jae. Her characters are magnificent and the dialogue is poignant. Wrong Number, Right Woman is a romance for those that believe in fate, true love and happy endings.
The characters are what is most remarkable about this book. They encourage readers to toss out their stereotypes and preconceived notions. They help readers recognize that people can define themselves how they see fit. They can love without labels. They can be comfortable in their own skin, no mater their size or body shape. They can be passionate about things that nourish their soul. And–they can be butch and love to sew.
Denny is such an appealing character; one can not help but like her. She is genuine, kind and loyal, but at the same time a bit shy and reserved. Eliza, in many ways, is the exact opposite of Denny. She is outgoing and absolutely not shy. When the two cross paths in a bit of a wrong number mix up, they connect instantly. From there a texting sort of friendship grows and a bond begins to form. This new friendship offers both of them something that no other relationship before has: the potential to embrace who they are freely and comfortablely. But most importantly, it offers love and acceptance.
The secondary characters in this story are equally fantastic. Heather, Eliza’s best friend, is witty and supportive. Salem, Denny’s sister, is loving and encouraging. Bella, Denny’s niece, is wise beyond her years and the apple of Denny’s eye. Together, these characters make a satisfying supporting cast of characters. They add to the story in glorious ways to make this story so much more.
The excerpt below highlights why Jae is a favorite among romance readers. She taps into her readers’ emotions every time, and she knows how to use dialog to tell the story. The following is an exchange between Heather and Eliza that just hit me square in the heart.
“The waitress kept glaring at Denny as if she had ordered a plate full of cute kittens,” Heather said.
“Why would she do that?” Eliza asked. Denny was always well-mannered and respectful. Why would anyone treat her like that?
Heather gave her a duh look. “Well, because of the way Denny looks.”
Eliza frowned. A mental image of Denny formed in her mind’s eye. Lately, that happened at the drop of a hat. She could easily picture the baby-blue button-up she had worn at the festival, the fabric stretching over her strong arms and generous breasts. Wrong Number, Right Woman is a delightfully charming and endearing story of friendship, acceptance and love. It is a romance that declares true love can happen in the most surprising ways between the most unlikely couples; all one needs to do is open their heart and embrace it. I highly recommend this sweet romance. It’s definitely one not to miss.
